OBJECTIVES
EXPECTED OUTPUT
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The game booth aims to accumulate funds for Otaku Kaizen’s future activities.

The game booth’s objective for the customers is for them to have fun.

It is expected that we will gain enough profit from this event for a better and stronger interest club.

Also, we expect our customers to enjoy what the gaming booth offers.
The members will learn how to maintain and/or watch over small businesses such as stalls or booths.

MECHANICS:

The game features a gigantic board. It is played using the same rules as a typical snakes and ladders game. However, the pictures of the usual snakes or ladders are replaced by those of good or bad characters from anime, tv shows, games and so on.

If the player approaches and knows the name of the good character, he will make great advances by skipping several tiles on the board. If not, he will remain in his position.

In case the player hits a bad character, there is a twist. You will have to choose a number with a corresponding consequence and then move a few steps back or maybe even go all the way to the starting point of the game.

The consequences are simple yet embarrassing and could be done within seconds. They are only for humorous purposes. They will not be dealt with using manners that could break the policies of the university.

PARTICIPANTS:

All members of the Otaku Kaizen
Students of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA

University Week's Giant Snakes and Ladders (Inside cover)

By : Admin C
Ever wonder whats more cooler than having food booth, love booth, jail booth or anything you can come up with booths and stalls you can set up during the Campus University week? Well there is always one thing and its about being unique. Otaku Kaizen proudly presents: (Anime themed) Giant Snakes and Ladders constructed by one of the Kaizen's active and proactive members.

Giant's Snakes and Ladders

Act 1: The Planning

A couple of weeks ago before the University week of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, the active members of Otaku Kaizen planned a meeting to settled on what kind of activity the Club will be having during the event. Most of the members suggested Game booths, Maid Cafe and even "Cookies ni Manuel" (Food booth). At the end of the meeting it was firstly approved to be a Game booth but with a sudden lack of chance and the higher bids of high expenses, the Game booth was rejected after the second meeting and it was replaced by the Giant Snakes and Ladders.

Why do we agreed on Giant's Snakes and Ladders?

It's simple, not only we are going to make it easy but there is no electricity charge if ever we are going to establish it on the campus during the event. On top of that, the materials are mostly school supplies even the dice is made out of rubber sheets and plenty of Coupon bond.

Act 2:  The Making

Materials needed:
- 2   1/2 Illustration Board
- 1 16x16 Plastic Cover
- 1 Big Plywood
- 2 Pentelpens / Marker (For marking)
- 2 sets of Poster paint
- Crayons (Optional)
- 1 bond of Coupon bond. (30 sheets)
- 1 Duck tape (too expensive but the other tapes work as well)
- 1 bundle of Rubber sheets
- Pencil (For tracing)
- T-square / other long objects for measurement
-Pride (You must have)

Making the Giant snakes and ladders is easy if you have the idea already on how to do it but doing it for the first time is a pain in the neck, at first the leading officers John Carlo Huelar and Annabel Perez couldn't decided what to do on the things they brought, its a good thing there is always a research and a good brainstorming, the group started to combine all the pieces together as a draft but after a few experiments they finally came up with an idea.

They started to connect the Plywood and the two Illustration boards together by sides and then measured them with a Ruler and a T-square to determine how many squares are needed and to note that the square must fit the 7 players (characters).

"Measuring, Numbering and Lining the board"

Once it is done the team started to predict the possible chance to put the snakes and ladders. All of the positions were assigned by John Carlo Huelar (Admin C) after listing down the positions for Snakes and Ladders, the team put a mark of an "X" to notify the others not to color that part since its going to be covered with an anime picture that is later to be discussed.

Now everything is set, its time to color it, a bunch of team gathered and help to color the whole board with poster paint. While coloring it, the other members started to think about the possible legal consequence that they will be put to play on the actual activity. They started to form two teams, one is with the other side and the other one to the other side. The group brainstormed about the best consequence they can ever imagine. After a few hours, all of the members gathered around in circle and combine all consequence they have in their minds. The majority of  members who agreed to that certain consequence will be approve, so it ends with a conclusion that some were approved while the others were rejected but with a valid reason from everyone. After a long day at the project, the officers decided to call it a day and started to continue doing it tomorrow.

Alright, second day and everyone was still busy doing the project, it is time to pass the concept paper that the Kaizen's president wrote about, writing a concept paper is easy but submitting it late to get a permit is like feeling guilty out of the blue. It's already U-week that time and we still haven't passed the concept paper and we all know that we are in a tight schedule since most of us were busy at their own projects but we were very lucky that the Engineer in-charge of the booth / stalls was very kind of us and approved our permit. Going back to the work station, it is almost done, the coloring is done, the board is all taped up done, the consequence is done and now the only thing left is the Dice and the anime that we are about to cover (Note: If you do not know the mechanics of the game please refer to the University Week's Giant Snakes and Ladders by clicking here). A few Kaizens who were still there decided to do a brainstorm to figured out what anime character will they cover for the board and it turned out quite good in the end.

Third day of the operation and this will be the start of the implementation stage at the public, the dice was well-crafted by one of the members who contributed himself and the Anime pictures were all settled, the prize was already brought from a mall and now it is time to carry it trough the campus.

ACT 3: Working Operation

The team gathered in the Sunken Garden to start the operation, well the operation for the Giant Snakes and Ladders is a bit foreign to the campus since its new and its uncommon but who would have guess that later that day we are all being watched by dozens of people coming across the Garden. The first day end up well thanks to the members who participated on the first U-week activity for the Kaizens.

The second day of the working operation, was postponed since the board needs to be maintenance for new anime (thanks for some people spoiling the anime names ). It was then renewed, modified and fixed some of the scratches but sadly the time was not enough so the team decided to make up for it on Friday so the third day was skipped.

The fourth day was the final phase of the operation activity where we must all put up our best to make up for the loss day and we really thank God for helping us. The booth Giant's Snakes and Ladders were once again alive and active, not only on the college levels but more on the elementary and high school department. It was been one of the best experience the Kaizen had during their U-week activity.

Here are some snapshots of what happened during the event:

We were hoping that the next year would be another exciting activity as we plan to have more than just the Giant's Snakes and Ladders.

ACT 4: SUCCESS & AFTERMATH PARTY

Well of course! now that we're done with the activity, we can all see that we pretty much earn something and those earned profits will be going to the Kaizen's fund for the future causes and activities but before we packed up and leave the campus there's still much time so we decided to play the game for ourselves but without using the Anime themed mechanics but with the original Snakes and ladders mechanics, I remember it took almost 2.5 hours in order for us to finish the game because we allow the rule "backing" (if the player is near at the finish line and if the player gets the roll of a number that is higher than the exact spot of the finish line it will go back)  plus not to mention most of us were stuck in snakes which is quite frustrating but fun. After completing the game (Admin C won), we head to Brian's house to play a game and to have some late night game time.
